What Makes Him Special?
He's special
not only because he's nine,
but also because he's only been playing for a year and a half.
He has a perfect ear for tuning and a unique ability to focus on
the music. His extreme focus on the music makes his future
as a great violinist very promising.
A Little Background
When he was seven, Alex
became interested in classical music. To merely say he was
interested is putting it mildly. Alex is a child who becomes
super-focused in areas that interest him and endeavors to learn
all about them. Day and night, he'd listen to classical music and
ended up memorizing (for fun, no less) composers, the dates of their music and the
different periods of classical music.
In spite of his
intense passion for classical music and the violin, his parents wouldn't let him
take violin until they were sure it was a lasting interest.
Only after his 8th birthday, did they allow Alex to get a violin
and start taking lessons.
Unlike many Asians, his
father didn't push him to take violin, but has encouraged him. Alex's
ability to learn quickly, is pleasing to his teacher. When
he was interviewed as a potential student, she was impressed by his
vast knowledge of classical music and it's composers.
Alex also has the dubious honor of being the only (or one of the
only) student to ask for extra material to work on between lessons.
Mississippi is a very
special place for all types of music. Alex is in the right
place to learn and gain a deeper appreciation for classical music.
Alex is a great blend of the East and West with his
Korean/American background.
Alex is extremely talented for
his age and the length of time he's been playing. His
parents are proud of his accomplishments and fully support his
endeavors with music. It is their hope that he is not only
extremely talented on the violin, but also remains a
well-adjusted, intellegent young man. |
