Lei
Wang is On Top of the World!
First
Chinese American Woman to climb the 7 Summits!
From
the winter wastelands to the icy peaks –
Lei Wang
loves extremes. The
Boston
resident is the first Chinese-American to
successfully climb the Seven Summits – a group of
mountains comprising the highest peaks on each of the
seven continents. By successfully scaling
Mount Everest
, Lei has completed the final mountain missing from her
collection. “I’ve fulfilled a life-long dream with
this climb,” says the adventurer after her return to
Boston
.
The
success of her Seven Summits project was dependent not
just on endurance and physical fitness, but also on mental
strength. "I realized that people are more inhibited
by mental limits than by physical limits,” Lei says.
"Through our upbringing, we are used to associating
competitive sports with Olympic athletes, and believe that
only a small, elite group who were born talented and
trained since they were young can do it. We are used to
believing that only very few special people can run a
marathon. Mountain climbing is full of risk and is not for
“normal” people. We were brought up to learn to live
within our limits. For some reason we consider limits to
be set in stone and are not to be surpassed. This is a
defeatist mentality..."
Lei
Wang
was just a
normal city girl who had no special talent, no special
training, but just a strong will and a "never give
up" spirit.
She
had made the decision to support more women to adopt the
active life style, break through their limits, and pursue
whatever dreams that their hearts take them to. Lei hopes
that her successful completion of her Seven Summits dream
will motivate more people, especially women, to pursue the
adventures of their lives!
With
the completion of climbing
Mount Everest
, she has now climbed all of the seven summits and skied
to both the North and South Poles.
Lei
Wang is available for television and radio interviews as
well as personal appearances upon return from her tour
media in
China
.
