The Grand People's Study House, which is situation in Central District, Pyongyang, has a total floor space of 100,000 square meters.

It has sturdy pillars of white granite and curving roofs in many stories laid with graceful and soft ornamentation, showing magnificent national architectural beauty.

The pavilions on either side of the main building are fitten with two clocks, from which "Song of General Kim Il Sung", an immortal revolutionary paean, wafts.

The building is unique in architectural style and its interior has been perfectly furnished.

The imposing building has halls and corridors of marble, floors decorated with the jade patterns of flowers and stairs of high-grade stones.

The study house offers more than 5,000 seats and 12,000 people can use it every day.  It can house 30 million volumes and contains more than 600 rooms provided with the requisite conditions for study.

All the rooms have been well lit.  There are more than 10 reading rooms and the books are brought by the automatic signal system.

In 17 record lecture rooms, the versions of foreign books are available and the records can be heard or lent.

There are many lecture rooms.  In a large lecture room with 800 seats, lectures on social and natural sciences, symposiums and film shows are held.

Professionals and working people can improve their knowledge by taking part in the short course, lectures, invitation lectures, questions-and-answer course or using scientific films, the records and tapes.

Leading officials from different domains, scientists, technicians and university teachers attend lectures on the latest science and techniques in these rooms regularly. These lecture rooms are equipped with fine facilities, including TV sets, tape recorders, movie projectors, slide projectors, automatic blackboards and so on.

Besides, there are information rooms to help circulate new technical data and the catalogues of books to the local areas and advertise them through television and radio and the question-and-answer rooms are also used effectively.

The study house also has a printing shop equipped with printing and photographic facilities and welfare facilities.  The study house helps North Korean people acquire the political theory, science and techniques and improve cultural attainment.  It is a grand palace of learning, an important base of intellectualizing the whole of society and a correspondence university of the working people.

The Grand People's Study House was built in one year and 9 months under the attentive guidance of the Workers' Party of Korea.
