Pakistan's
population is approximately 162,419,946 according to a
July 2005 estimate. The Indus River Valley region is
where the majority of Pakistan's population lives. Most
people are between the ages of 15-64 (56.3% - male
46,759,333 / female 44,685,828). The median age of
Pakistanis is 19.58 years and the population is growing at
a rate of 2.03% (2005 est.).
The
ratio of male to female is pretty much even, except for a
slight decline in the over 65 age bracket, in which there
are slightly more women than men. (.93 male/female).
Pakistan’s
calendar features a great many Muslim religious
festivals. Others are in memory of National Heroes or to
commemorate political events in the nation’s recent
history. Muslim festivals are celebrated according to
Muslim (Lunar) Calendar and may occur some 10 days
earlier each successive Christian Year. There are
several folk festivals held regularly in every part of
the country.
