Hunting Ground
Stress Relieving!
|
|
With mild weather all-year-round and the undulating gentle
slopes, Jeju Island is just the right place for hunting. The
abundance of wild animals including boars, deer, pheasants,
hare, and badgers has long attracted many local and foreign
visitors.
The grandeur of Mt.
Halla and the
picturesque view of various trees and flowers make the hunting
experience all the more exciting.
The best season for hunting is from
November to February. This is when hunting is officially allowed
and each person can catch up to 3 pheasants/ducks, 1 dove/snipe,
and an unlimited number of sparrows per day.
Jeju Island residents need to get
permission from the city hall/county office. Visitors need to
get a permit from the Jeju Island branch hunting office of the
forestry union (82-64-753-3465).
With the exception of restricted areas (Mt.
Halla National Park,
preservation sites, city construction sites, 1§° within and
around the expressway, 2§° within coastal roads, islands, and
the streets), you can hunt all over Jeju Island.
It's easy to huddle up with cold during
the winter but the thrill of hunting and the refreshing wind of
Jeju will help restore your energy level.

landing, and good wind makes Jeju Island an ideal place for
gliding. The 300 lowlands and highlands are suitable for
beginners to practice on.
Mt. Yeongju in the eastern Seongeup area has favorable wind
all-year-long, thus hosting various competitions, such as the
Mastercup Paragliding Championship Tournament. Geumak road and
Dangoreum on the western industrial road, Useungsaengoreum,

enjoy the beautiful panoramic scenery of the island including
views of mountains and the ocean. You cannot imagine the
excitement of soaring through the blue skies while breathing in

Useungsangoreum (1,087m above sea level, actual height of 430m)
is especially thrilling because you can see 2/3 of the entire
island at a once and the broad view of Baekrokdam Lake on Mt.
Halla opens out right below you.
To paraglide you first need to complete a training program on
ground, along with regular experience-based training at the
paragliding school (82-64-748-4838). It is also a good idea to
get some advice from local gliders. Rental of paragliding
equipment costs 30,000 won per day and the training program for
beginners costs around 200,000 won.

Beautiful view immersed in the soft moonlight!
Yongduam Rock & Yongyeon Pond are highly recommended late
night driving courses. Yongduam Rock, known as one of Jeju
Island's main attractions, is a group of strangely-shaped rocks
rising 10m high on the western coast of Jeju City. The rocks are
shaped like the head of a dragon that is about to fly off.
According to an early Korean legend, a dragon that came to steal
a jade ball from Mt. Halla was shot by an arrow that belonged to
the god living in the mountain. The injured dragon sunk into the
sea but raised its head which was locked permanently while
staring into the sky. In the sunset, it almost seems as though
the dragon is truly alive and moving.
Yongyeon Pond is a pond located 200m to the east of Yongduam
Rock. With a screen of rocks and the evergreens surrounding the
pure water, Yongyeon Pond has long been called 'Yongyeon Yabeom'
for its beautiful nightview. A full moon on a summer night
especially creates an exotic atmosphere.
