Synopsis:

Korea's biggest romantic hit of 2009, SBS drama Brilliant Legacy (a.k.a. Shining Inheritance) spun a Cinderella tale of family feud and sweet romance into ratings gold. Closing at over 30% average viewership ratings, the heartwarming drama draws both laughter and tears with the budding romance between a stubborn couple who start out as bickering rivals, and end up falling for each other. Starlet Han Hyo Ju (Iljimae) charms as the modern-day Cinderella, a young woman who loses her family and fortune, but stays true to her self. Pop idol Lee Seung Gi (Famous Princesses), meanwhile, experienced a huge surge in popularity for his turn as the brash and inconsiderate rich kid who slowly changes after meeting the heroine. Moon Chae Won (The Painter of the Wind) and Bae Soo Bin (Jumong) also make their breakthroughs playing the protagonists' admirers.

Back in Korea from studying abroad, spunky get-goer Eun Sung (Han Hyo Ju) goes from riches to rags when her father suddenly passes away. She never gets the chance to see her father for the last time and even loses her autistic brother (Yun Joon Suk) - all because of her stepmother's (Kim Mi Sook) treachery and the unwitting meddling of arrogant restaurant heir Hwan (Lee Seung Gi). As fate would have it, Eun Sung ends up saving Hwan's grandmother (Ban Hyo Jung) by chance. Touched by Eun Sung's kind heart and hardworking nature, Hwan's grandmother not only decides to take her in, she names Eun Sung her heir!

This release comes with a 145-minute talk show special about the drama that includes interviews, bloopers, and behind-the-scenes.

Brilliant Legacy -

Korea is riding on the "hallyu" movement - the globalization of Korean dramas (K-dramas).  Whether it's Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, China or the U.S., viewers who watch Korean dramas are enamored by the "real" acting and fascinating stories that unfold before their eyes.

K-dramas are a refreshing change for many, and some, like Winter Sonata, take them back to first loves.  Others like, Dae Jang Geum, tell about history in a fascinating way with rich costumes and realistic sets.

While some viewers may find them too "mild" for their taste, many others will be thrilled to find tasteful, endearing programming that reels them in and leaves them wanting more...and more...and more....and then they're hooked only to find that they are part of the "hallyu" movement.

Buying Korean Dramas

If you are interested in buying Korean dramas, be careful where you buy them.  Buying from eBay and other sites may be less expensive, but as the saying goes "you get what you pay for."

From personal experience, buying off of eBay or other sites usually results in bootleg or illegal copies of the dramas which results in poor picture quality.  Some bootleg copies also have very poor English subtitles, ranging from jibberish to excessive foul language.  The only site we use and recommend, because of the excellent quality of the DVDs and English subtitles, is YesAsia.com. YesAsia.com is the only authorized distributor of Korean DVDs in North America.
