Byul Soon Geom a.k.a Chosun Police

Byul Soon Geom a.k.a Chosun Police
MBC 2007

Starring:

 ~ Ryu Seung Ryong
 ~ Shin Sung Woo
 ~ Park Hyo Joo
 ~ On Joo Wan

~ Ahn Nae Sang

Synopsis:

MBC presents CSI: Joseon. Touted as the Joseon period version of CSI, Byul Soon Geom (a.k.a. Chosun Police) raked in the highest ratings ever in the history of Korean cable television. First broadcast in 2005 on MBC, then nixed from the network due to low ratings, the series resurfaced in 2007 on an MBC-owned cable channel due to high audience demand. Starring Ryu Seung Ryong (Hwang Jin Yi), Park Hyo Joo (Air City),On Joo Wan (The Typhoon In That Summer), and Ahn Nae Sang (Hansungbyulgok), this thriller follows the same successful formula as CSI, focusing on unlocking crime mysteries through meticulous scientific analysis and spellbinding the audience with the nitty-gritty details of the investigative process. Byul Soon Geom, however, clearly differentiates itself from its American archetype with an ancient historical setting, plus a sprinkle of humanism and occasional comic relief. Bolstered by a terrific cast of talented actors, speedy and dramatic storylines, ingenious plot twists, and CSI-style camerawork, Byul Soon Geom has been such a success, it's already gearing up for a second season in 2008.

In 1894, Korea was experiencing a sudden influx of western culture and heavy political turmoil, leading the Joseon dynasty to undergo various social and political reformations. During this time, a new type of police force - the father of Korea's modern police structure - was founded. Healthy men between the ages of 20 and 25 showing good moral conduct were chosen through a rigorous review process to form a police task force. An undercover special task force called Byul Soon Geom was established to operate in secrecy. Whilst the central police task force took care of general civil matters, Byul Soon Geom focused on one task: criminal investigation. This is their story.

Byul Soon Geom - Korean, no English subtitles - All region DVDs

Korea is riding on the "hallyu" movement - the globalization of Korean dramas (K-dramas).  Whether it's Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, China or the U.S., viewers who watch Korean dramas are enamored by the "real" acting and fascinating stories that unfold before their eyes.

K-dramas are a refreshing change for many, and some, like Winter Sonata, take them back to first loves.  Others like, Dae Jang Geum, tell about history in a fascinating way with rich costumes and realistic sets.

While some viewers may find them too "mild" for their taste, many others will be thrilled to find tasteful, endearing programming that reels them in and leaves them wanting more...and more...and more....and then they're hooked only to find that they are part of the "hallyu" movement.

Buying Korean Dramas

If you are interested in buying Korean dramas, be careful where you buy them.  Buying from eBay and other sites may be less expensive, but as the saying goes "you get what you pay for."

From personal experience, buying off of eBay or other sites usually results in bootleg or illegal copies of the dramas which results in poor picture quality.  Some bootleg copies also have very poor English subtitles, ranging from jibberish to excessive foul language.  The only site we use and recommend, because of the excellent quality of the DVDs and English subtitles, is YesAsia.com. YesAsia.com is the only authorized distributor of Korean DVDs in North America.
