Funny,
heartwarming, and completely charming, MBC drama The
1st Shop of Coffee Prince has been the big romantic
surprise of 2007. Following her memorable role in Palace,
sassy starlet Yoon Eun Hye gives another career-defining
performance, cutting her hair short for a lovable,
gender-bending role. Also at their best are her co-stars
Lee Seon Gyun from The Great White Tower and
heartthrob Gong Yoo (One Fine Day), in his last
drama before heading off to army service. A huge hit in
South Korea, The 1st Shop of Coffee Prince is both
a romantic comedy of errors and a sensitive urban drama
about the dreams and confusions of young people.
Rich,
irresponsible, and hot-tempered, Han Kyul (Gong Yoo) can't
figure out what he wants to do with his life, but he knows
he's not interested in the family business or all these
blind dates his grandmother keeps arranging. Mistaking the
brash, boyish-looking Eun Chan (Yoon Eun Hye) for a guy,
he hires her to pose as his boyfriend and scare off his
blind dates! At his grandmother's prodding, Han Kyul
agrees to run a coffee shop for three months, and ends up
hiring Eun Chan again, this time as a barista. Still
disguised as a man, Eun Chan is happy as a clam working at
Coffee Prince, developing a close friendship with Han Kyul
and his musician cousin Han Sung (Lee Seon Gyun). But
things get complicated when Eun Chan and a confused Han
Kyul begin to fall for each other.
