Thailand's
classical literature is based on tradition and history, so it's not surprising
the Thai version of Hundu's
Ramayana, known as the Ramakien is the basis of Thailand's music and
art. Although the Thai version is one fourth longer than the Hindu
original, the basic theme stays the same.
In
popular writing, there are many women authors, and the style for modern writing
is more Western.
One
of Thailand's most famous novelists, Kukrit Pramoj, was also the Prime Minister
in 1975.
