Jonathan
Lee, Mississippi youth,
traveled to Iowa on 1/1/12 to
question Republican
presidential hopefuls Newt
Gingrich and Mitt Romney about
their thoughts on the
reunification of Korea.
Former Speaker Newt
Gingrich was asked if, as
president, he, similarly to
when President Reagan showed
support for the reunification
of Germany, supported
Korea¡¯s reunification.
Former Speaker Gingrich said
that, ¡°Yes... I¡¯d like to
find a way to do it
peacefully, but yes.¡±
Governor Mitt Romney was
asked if, as president, he
would support the unification
of Korea. His reply, ¡°You
know I¡¯d love to see the day
when we had freedom throughout
the entire world. It would be
wonderful wouldn¡¯t it if we
had freedom and transparity in
all parts of the world
including North Korea. I hope
with the ascension of Kim Jong
Un that there is some prospect
for new openness. ... It is a
fragile and dangerous time.¡±
Jonathan is currently
promoting International
Children¡¯s Peace Day and a
meeting between the children
of North and South Korea. It
is his hope to have a letter
delivered to the new leader of
North Korea, Kim Jong Un. In
August 2010, Jonathan
travelled to North Korea to
deliver a letter to the former
leader, Kim Jong Il. He had
favorable response for the
idea from North Korean Mission
to the UN, but they stated
that a peace treaty needed to
be signed first.
In 2010, he displayed a
banner in Tiananmen Square
along with a letter to Chinese
President Hu Jin Tao because
the embassy of China refused
to receive his letter.
